How your app can fail without maintenance and support, PART TWO

This month we are presenting Part 2 of a three-part series on maintenance and support. Each month we will go over a few important topics that we hope will help your mobile app become a huge success. Last month’s blog can be found here: PART ONE.

Platforms and Frameworks

However many platforms you chose to develop for — iOS, Android, Windows — you will have to incorporate more in the budget for maintenance. Each platform will have unique updates, fixes and improvements.

There are many different open source frameworks and interfaces for building apps such as HTML5, Ruby, Java, Python, Django, X-Code and more. A surefire strategy for ongoing maintenance and support is to choose platforms that are scaleable and can by combined with others. Custom frameworks that are poorly built can end up costing you more in the long-term, and you might even have to have an app entirely rebuilt because of its failing.

API updates

Social and other tech companies use Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) to let you connect with their systems. These include such things as Facebook login, iOS fingerprint scanning, Google maps, Twitter feeds and the like.

Your app’s API integration will need to be updated as each tech company takes advantage of new technology, new ideas or solutions so that your app will continue functioning.

Testing Updates

Sometimes a user will download a new version of a previous app, sometimes miss a release and install a new version over a very old version that has data stored on his mobile device. For this reason, it is very important to thoroughly test your updates.

That’s the skinny for this month. Next month we plan to go over Planned Updates and Backups. Talk to you then. For more information, call us at 1 (704) 550 2836 or email us at info@sinewsolutions.com.
